I get the impression that RaO thumpers are badly balanced for 4v4 though. How much of a concern that is really depends on Izzy.

I know this is only preliminary and subject to change, but even under ideal conditions (IE no energy denial and using no other energy-based skills but RaO) it is not sustainable without draining your energy completely eventually. If you even have to think about using Comfort Animal, you can forget about reactivating RaO, and again, that's using no other Energy skills. If the current changes stand, thumpers will be once again useless in competitive play.

Thanks again, ANet. Oh, and I see you still didn't buff Punishing Shot, and Incendiary Arrows is still crap even with the buff. Why do you hate Rangers so much?

Too hard.

At 13 Expertise, it's around 3 pips of energy to maintain, so you can do autoattack damage and not too much else. At 9 Expertise, which appears to be much more common, it's basically dead.

They really decided to kick it in the nuts with that change. As stated earlier in the thread, I agreed with the idea of making the skill deactivate when the pet dies in order to 'balance' it. The way it's been balanced makes energy management with the build nigh on impossible while maintaining a high damage output (please correct me if I'm wrong, I havn't PvP'ed with it, due to having my connection capped, but I did do some mucking around at the Isle of the Nameless to see how it 'felt').

Then don't keep it up all the time?

I like the change, kind of. It makes it so that you have to choose between trying to constantly use it and actually using attack skills. All it means is that you'll have some downtime.

imo RaO was never a true thumper, the original thumper used ferocious strike to charge adrenaline for use and tigers fury as the IAS. RaO thumpers only got a longer IAS and a slight speed boost, they dont have the adrenaline gain as original thumpers. those original thumpers could KD targets more than RaO thumpers and ferocious strike also contributed to dmg, meaning they had slightly more dmg than RaO thumpers. i hope they keep RaO as it is (for this weekend). non-melee classes shouldnt be doing melee things. rangers shouldnt use hammers better than a hammer warrior imo.

1: WTF? So if you replace one skill a thumper suddenly isn't a thumper anymore?
2: Thumpers didn't use Fericious Strike for the adrenaline

A softer nerf might have been reduce IAS from 33% to 25 % to decrease DPS, and reduce the duration by 25% not 45% like they did.
